What happens After SOYO?
Teen SOYO is for teens but what happens when you're not a teen anymore? You're in university or college and are about to be in your 20's. That doesn't mean there isn't still something out there for you! Being involved in soyo doesn't end it is just the start!! Soyo teaches us to be a member of the Church and how to do that so step 1 is get more involved in church- come to services and live the spiritual life we have taught you about.
BUT there are other organizations for you to join that will replace soyo and you can expand your knowledge of the faith and make even more friends. You can contact your youth directors or priest for more information on any of the things listed below. |
Young Adult Ministry (YAM)Once you're done soyo or are too old to start soyo there is another organization that is the next step. Many things as a young adult are different, the challenges facing you change, your schedule changes, etc.
This ministry is geared for the next steps in your life and your new roles in the church as independent individuals living your faith in the world, university and at work. Meetings take place after vespers on Saturdays. |
OCFYou've been accepted into college or university or are already there. Meeting fellow Orthodox on campus is not as easy as meeting them at church, you might be in a new town or the only orthodox in your program are from a different jurisdiction or are also from out of town (there are so many scenarios). One great thing that exists for you is OCF. It is a campus ministry which means it meets at your school and they are meetings where you can talk about your faith as a student and make connections and find resources that are helpful to you in your adjustment to life as a student in post secondary. Usually meetings are lead by a priest or deacon.
There are weekly meetings in Ottawa shared between UOttawa and Carleton (Algonquin students welcome). *Note: OCF in Ottawa in currently dormant and there are no meetings happening at this time. If you are out of town and want to find a chapter or want to find out more about the ministry go to: https://www.ocf.net/ |
English Bible StudyFree on Tuesday nights? Well come to church (usually the board room at 7pm) and learn more about the faith on a more advanced level. This ministry is open to all so you will meet more of the other members of the parish you didn't see in soyo or YAM.
